gotham city
During the Revolutionary War, a Norwegian mercenary founded the dark and mysterious Gotham City. Later, the British took it over. Afterwards, an enormous war struck out on the ground of Gotham. Years later, Gothamians find out that the American Founding Fathers were involved in summoning a bat-demon which became trapped underneath old Gotham Towne. The evil of the bat made Gotham the dark and dreary city it is. The people of Gotham dug a little deeper to find a man, who had been sleeping there for roughly 40,000 years. They called this man "Doctor Gotham".
Now that you know the history of Gotham, let's get into the story of little Bruce Wayne. Gotham is one of the largest cities with the most amounts of crime. The majority of the time, Gotham has large black clouds over it. Most people are either stealing, or trying not to get stolen from. Well, one day, Thomas Wayne, owner of Wayne Industries, decided to surprise his wife, Martha, and son, Bruce, by taking them to the opera. He knew how much they loved it. When the show was over, Thomas, Martha, and Bruce were trying to get out of the opera. But it was jammed packed. So, they decided to take a faster way out, through the back door. The back door led to an alley, where a few homeless bums stayed and made bonfires. As they were walking out, a man (who we later find out his name is Joe Chill) walks up to them with a gun, and tells them to empty their pockets. At first, they don't listen, but he proves he isn't playing by firing a shot. (If you're wondering why no one went to look, it's because gunshots happen all the time in Gotham.) This scared them, so they did as he said. The man took Thomas' watch from him, then took Martha's necklace from her. Thomas, trying to protect his wife jumps in front of the man. The man then shoots, and kills, Thomas. Martha sobs loudly. "This'll shut you up," says the man, right before putting a bullet in Martha's head. The man begins to realize what he has done, and guilt starts passing over him. He runs away in panic. Young Bruce sobs as he sees his dead parents lying there, blood gushing out of them. It was in that moment, Bruce realized that he was destined to make sure no one would have to go through what he just went through.
Alfred Pennyworth, the butler at the Wayne Manor, took in young Bruce. Alfred told Bruce that it would be okay. Justice would be served. Bruce wanted to make sure of it. Bruce studied... well... everything. He made sure he knew everything about everything. (He was Google, in a person). Once Bruce knew everything (which took him all the way up until he was in his 20s), he decided to learn every form of fighting. Bruce found and was trained by the best of the best of the best of fighters. They taught him every form of fighting from street fighting all the way to Keysi. He knows every way to kill a person.
One day, while Bruce was sitting in his office, he was thinking of different ways to fight crime without anyone recognizing him. He thought of a bunch of different costumes, but just couldn't think of the right one. But as he was sitting there, a bat flew into his window and scared Bruce half to death. This gave Bruce the perfect idea, the Batman. Bruce drew up a dark, bat-like costume (see Batsuit) and made the costume to his perfection. The persona Bruce Wayne took on was what Gotham needed. A wake up call, a slap to the face, telling people that there is hope in the bleakest of places.
